Paper Girls Vol. 1
Amazon Review
From Brian K. Vaughan, #1 New York Times bestselling writer of SAGA, and Cliff Chiang, legendary artist of WONDER WOMAN, comes the first volume of an all-new ongoing adventure.
In the early hours after Halloween of 1988, four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls uncover the most important story of all time. Suburban drama and otherworldly mysteries collide in this smash-hit series about nostalgia, first jobs, and the last days of childhood.
Miss J's Review
Do you like Stranger Things or time travel? Great. Then, you'll love Paper Girls. As the Amazon Review states, this tale begins in the early hours of Halloween night. You know that I'm already hooked from the get-go because Halloween is my favorite holiday! What I found particularly interesting about this first volume was the religious imagery in ---'s opening dream sequence. It's a reference to the story of Eve eating the apple in the garden of Eden. For me, I am curious to see how this repeated imagery plays out in the rest of the narrative. One of the particularly cool parts of this graphic novel is that different characters speak different languages, which often time leads to confusion; however, this is part of what makes this story so fun: not knowing what's really happening drives readers to continue reading to figure out what's actually happening. The first volume of Paper Girls is full of twists and turns, monsters and villains, friendship and despair. I am soooooo excited to get my mitts on the next volume.
